Would you like to see Airfix Re-Release some 1/32 Cars? This is a Poll to see if you would like Airfix to re-release some of their 1/32 scale Car moulds (presuming they still exist). This includes things like the Sunbeam Rapier and the Renault Dauphine, the classics of days gone by. The poll will run forever!

I voted "Yes", but I feel that any sort of re-release is only viable as a collection rather than individual kits.

I voted yes, even though I would be unlikely to buy them myself, I know a lot of people would love to see them re released (apart from the collectors flogging them for £50+ on E-bay of course ).

Voted yes,
I would like pretty much any car i remember in the late sixties/early seventies. i.e.

I must correct myself.
I would buy the Marina and Viva as they were among the first cars I ever owned.

I would love to see a Marina out, partly because I had some smashing times as a little tyke in one. My dad used to have one for ages, in a Gold/Bronze colour. He got some guy to tweak the engine on it, and I can remember it went real fast. We used to tow a little tiny 2 birth Caravan round with it for my and my two brothers on holiday. I can remember it once ran out of fuel just opposite a garage and we had to push it over the road to fill it up! I can't have been older than 5 or 6, but for the memories, it is definatly worth buying to build!
So Vote, Vote, Vote!

Of the 1/32nd cars Airfix produced, I had the Triumph Herald (although it was the 13/60 version) and the Ford Mk1 Escort. I currently own a Reliant 3 wheeler and that's why I want the Bond Bug.
On a side note; It would be perfectly fiesable to tweek the tooling to give different cars. The Ford Zodiac tool could be tweeked to give the Zepher 6 (or the 4 if you were mean).
The Sunbeam Rapier could be reworked into: The Singer Gazelle. The Singer Vogue, Hillman Minx. The Herald would only need a new dashboard and bonnet to turn it into the 13/60. The Triumph Vitesse would need a new dashboard, bonnet and engine, but I digress.

Not sure which (if any) I'd buy, but I'm sure they'd be a popular part of the range

there is not a poll for abstaining so are you looking for yes no answers or you after what all the members think on this subject.
as i dont want to answer no as looks bad for poeple that like the subject, but also cant answer yes as i would never buy this type of kit!

It's an impartial poll, so you have the choice to vote for your opinion. Be that Yes, or No, it doesn't matter. This poll is just an attempt to find out who would like Airfix to re-release some of their 1/32 Cars and who would not. The more votes in the poll, the clearer the picture becomes of how many people want to have the kits re-released or not

I voted yes! I built four 1/32 Modern Cars in the seventies, Triumph Herald, MG 1100, Renault Dauphine, and Sunbeam Rapier. I have those again along many others that have recently reissued, along with the rare Bond Bug.
Radio Gnome, the Vauxhall Viva was reissued last year in the Classic Car Collection. Its sold out at Hannants and other online shops, which seems to indicate that the set was popular. There's a set for sale on eBay Australia at AU$39.
Here's a list of Modern Cars that have yet to be reissued. The second number is the number of votes gained on the old Airfix forum. Surprising to me, The Morris Marina is the most popular! The 1/32 Mini is not included as the tool for this was sold to MRRC.
1 12 Morris Marina
2 8 Ford Capri Custom
3 6 Beach Buggy
4 5 Bond Bug
5 5 Vauxhall Viva (Has been reissued)
6 5 Jaguar 420
7 5 Ford Escort
8 5 Morris 1100
9 5 Sunbeam Rapier
10 4 Maserati Indy
11 4 Triumph Herald
12 4 Austin Maxi
13 3 Renault Dauphine
14 2 Porshe Carrera Six
15 2 Ford Zodiac Custom
16 2 Ford Lotus-Cortina Custom
17 1 Mercedes 280SL
Possible sets could be
* Small Cars: Renault Dauphine, Morris Mini, VW Beetle, Morris 1100, Bond Bug, Beach Buggy
* British Cars 1: Vauxhall Viva, Triumph Herald, Vauxhall Victor Estate, Austin Maxi, Morris Marina
* British Cars 2: Sunbeam Rapier, Ford Lotus Cortina, Ford Zodiac MkIII, Ford Escort, Ford Capri, Jaguar 420
* Sports Cars: Ferrari 250LM, Porshe Carrera 6, Mercedes 280SL, Porsche 917, Maserati Indy
* British Sports Cars: Austin Healey Sprite, Jaguar E-Type, Triumph TR4, MGB, Aston Martin DB5, Ford 3 Litre GT

It's interesting to note that the Classic Car Collection originaly had the Triumph Herald, the Ford Escort and the Triumph TR4A. The TR4A being replaced by the Viva in the newer edition.

Morris 1100....A generic version of a.d.o.????-the build code for the bodyshell
Any way when they rusted to death, the mechanicals were "recycled" into minis
So anyway, what is the difference between a real 1100 and an Airfix 1100?
Answer....the Airfix 1100 has less filler than the B.M.C.1100.

Flippin' heck yeah!
Bond Bug! Because it was so funky! And it looked like a slice of cheese!
Capri! Idiots drove them, (that's why the are all gone) but they were a cool design, a bit like a UK Mustang.
Maxi! (yes I said Maxi, because I had the misfortune to own one with a cracked cylinder block) Sad car that I owned by circumstance rather than choice.
Marina! What a dull car, owned by dull people (sorry if you had one!). Never owned one, but memories all the same.
What I would really love is the James Bond stuff, although I imagine it's long since been destroyed/lost.

The 1911 Rolls Royce was historically used as the basis for an armoured car used extensively in WW1 and in fact in service in Palestine until the 1930s.
What would be fun is a re-release of the 1/32 kit of the civilian car with extra sprues for the militarised version, as was done with the B Type Bus. At present, if you wanted to build this vehicle, you'd need to either scratch it off the Airfix chassis, or you'd need the Scale Link multimedia kit, which is an eyewatering £100 (albeit probably a very good kit).
I think Airfix have done well thinking a bit laterally about some of these re-releases in the past. Reissuing kits off worn out old moulds isn't going to impress anyone, but the Sherman Flail and Churchill Crocodile were good stabs at revitalising an old product.
I also wonder if there might be mileage in a bit of photo-etch for these older kits. The interiors are highly visible, easy to research, and a weak point in the original kits.

Some kits sell well irrispective of the age of the tool. The VW Beetle has been around for years, but it still sells. Mind you, 1950's toolings wouldn't sell on their own. The only way you'd get away with it is by having boxed sets of cars.

It was still in action in the 1940s in Africa!
For what it's worth, all the best

I'd buy at least a couple of each of both the vintage and 'moderns' although I currently have at least one unbuilt of each anyway. it would bring down the perceived 'value' at auction and enable people to build them again instead of keeping them unbuilt 'in case'.
Possibly wouldn't buy the jaguar 420 as I have six of those.

Yes, yes,yes!!!!
I'd like to see as many as possible released. I built quite a few as a kid and would love the chance to do them 'properly.'

I voted no <Dives for cover>
I guess the the reason being that although they may appeal to us from a nostalgic point of view, I'm not convinced they would be economically viable in todays market.
I would love to be proved wrong by Airfix successfully re-releasing ther kits and enjoying good sales, but I just can't see it happening.

If I fell over the Airfix 917 I would pick it up.
The 1/32 scale is outside my normal scale window, but I just fancy that kit.
I build it more than 25 years ago. and not quite finished it before I had it ruined.
I would love to try again.

All these would sell. The Gladiator sold, you know.

I just voted YES.
Many of the 1/32 scale models are the only versions in any scale of prominent classic autos and contribute to a valuable historical record. I personally owned a Mk 1 Cortina GT (unfortunately not a Lotus) in the early sixties before coming to Canada and I loved that car. I also had a 1959 VW (was that once an Airfix 1/32 model?) I raced a Mini Cooper S here at Mosport in the early seventies and would love to see that model re-issued. And with modern technology, how about some new kits of classics and antiques? Wishful thinking, perhaps, but one can dream......
